The Stuart Center for Mission seeks a strongly collaborative, dynamic, creative person to serve as Coordinator of the Office of Justice Peace and Integrity of Creation (JPIC) for the Society of the Sacred Heart, United States – Canada Province (the Society), an international women’s Catholic religious organization. As a sponsored ministry of the Society, the Stuart Center’s mission is to work for social justice through education, empowerment and partnership at the national and international levels. Though located in the Brookland/NE section of Washington, D.C., the Stuart Center’s reach is both national and international, and three of the four offices (including JPIC) operate remotely. We are particularly committed to bringing our educational spirit to working in the Society's priority areas of anti-racism, immigration and environmental integrity and justice, particularly where women, youth and children are involved.
After careful evaluation and reflection, we are enthusiastic about launching a new model with the establishment of a JPIC Commission that reflects a collaborative, shared leadership model consistent with the core values of the Society as expressed through our JPIC commitment. The JPIC Commission will be comprised of a cross-section of Society of the Sacred Heart stakeholders and organizational partners. The Coordinator will animate and coordinate the JPIC Commission through the implementation of a shared leadership approach. The Coordinator will also play a key role in building the Commission and launching this new model.

Essential Functions:
Collaborating with the JPIC Commission the JPIC Coordinator will:
- set annual goals and conduct regular evaluations;
- develop programs, educational resources, reflection materials and online/digital tools for connecting people locally, regionally and globally;
- identify clear, consistent ways of integrating the work of JPIC into the life of the Society of the Sacred Heart, United States – Canada Province;
- participate in Stuart Center and Society committees or task forces as requested;
- coordinate efforts with other Society offices and partners including, but not limited to the Office of Youth and Vocation Ministry; the Office of Communications; Associates Program of the Province; the Network of Sacred Heart Schools/Conference of Sacred Heart Education; La Red de Educación Popular; the Philippine Region of the international Society (the “Americas”); and the Society’s UN-NGO Office.
- partner with other nonprofit organizations, religious congregations, and justice-related networks;
- develop timely position statements that reflect the mission and core values of the Society on matters or situations of national and/or international concern as they emerge.
- regularly update the content of the JPIC section of the Stuart Center website; online resources and tools; and the JPIC database;
- manage the online JPIC groups planned through the Stuart Center and assist in managing the groups gathered online related to International JPIC priorities.
General Administrative Responsibilities:
- Develop and monitor expenditure of budgets that reflect a respect for the stewardship of limited resources while seeking support for programs and projects in collaboration with the Executive Director.
- Convene regular meetings of the Commission and maintain records of agendas, minutes and rotation of duties.
- Submit annual goals and monthly reports.
- Attend virtual and in-person staff meetings.
- Supervise program interns and volunteers.
- Perform other administrative functions as required by the position or the Executive Director.
Qualifications and skills:
- Bachelor’s degree and minimum of 4 years of experience in a field related to social justice. Master’s degree in a related field preferred.
- A highly collaborative, shared leadership approach without forfeiting the responsibility for implementation of the essential functions as the Coordinator.
- This position requires an organized, motivated, self-starter with demonstrated skills in working with groups to achieve objectives through open communication and consensus.
- Reflect the mission of the Society of the Sacred Heart and Social Justice Teachings of the Catholic Church
- Ability to use (or learn) skills needed for webpage updating, Civi-CRM for database management, MS Word Office, and social media within the framework of the guidelines of the Society.
- Open to travel as needed
- Comfortable networking with groups and individuals, both secular and religious.
- Ability to work on seemingly intractable social issues without becoming discouraged.
- Strongly preferred bi-lingual proficiency in English and Spanish
Personal Qualities:
Must be a self-directed person who exercises initiative and creativity. This person should be able to assume both a leadership and collaborative/supportive role in work with other individuals or groups. Strong organizational and communication skills (written, oral and technological) are key.
Schedule:
The Director of JPIC typically works within the Monday-Friday from 9.00-5.00 or 8.00-4.00 timetable except when implementation of programs and/or participation in required meetings, conferences, etc. are required as part of the essential functions of the position. Travel may be necessary.
Compensation:
This is a 70% of full-time position. Salary commensurate with experience and benefits available through the Society of the Sacred Heart, United States – Canada Province.
