Week 07 (May 3-May 9)
By Annette Schmeling, RSCJ
Today, Hyacinth Day, we celebrate Janet Stuart’s vocation story – and through her story, we celebrate our own call to religious life. On May 6, 1882, amidst a garden of blue hyacinths and confident in God’s presence, Janet fully, joyously, embraced the vocation to which God was calling her. Today, we find ourselves not in a field of flowers, but instead in the throes of a global pandemic. Janet’s invitation remains the same: to stop and be attentive to the burden of broken hearts, lost choices, angry minds, frail bodies and fearful situations that we encounter. And to still find the JOY, as well. May the spring we draw from be sweet, fresh, water that brings peace of heart in troubling times.
